Institutional Data Governance

Western University's mission relies on the adept and efficient use of institutional data. To that end, Western will seek to manage, use, share, and protect such data through appropriate data governance.

Data governance is largely concerned with practices and processes that are used to ensure formal management of an organization’s data assets. Data governance often includes concepts such as leadership (ownership) and stewardship, roles and responsibilities, quality and access, security and privacy, and assurance and reliability to help the institution gain understanding over its myriad data assets, including the technologies and behaviors associated with data management.

Data governance should be seen as a set of processes that are informed by, and contribute towards, the goals of the Towards Western at 150 strategic plan.
