To ensure high-quality institutional data are trusted, understood, accurate, and provided to relevant stakeholders in a secure and meaningful fashion; to enhance the quality, and promote the ethical and responsible use, of institutional data to facilitate data-driven value to the Western University community and beyond.
Mission
Institutional Data Governance will improve the quality of the Western's institutional data by addressing data accuracy, completeness, and reliability. For example, inconsistency or ambiguity in data definitions can make analysis unreliable and might impede interpretation or collaboration. A strong Institutional Data Governance program will also include attention to metadata, promoting alignment and clarity on how key attributes within institutional datasets are defined and used.
Western will be transparent and inclusive in defining the responsibilities, accountabilities, and partnerships associated with Institutional Data Governance. Through an ethical lens, Western will build a process whereby institutional data processes are informed by engagement, clarity, consistency, and effectiveness.
